2021 Nissan Altima

What's New For the 2021 Nissan Altima?

As the sixth-generation model, the Nissan Altima now restricts turbocharged four-cylinder engine availability to the mid-level SR trim level.

2021 Altima Trims & Features

The 2021 Nissan Altima is split into S, SV, SR, SL, and Platinum trim levels. At the base level, the Altima offers seating of up to five occupants with an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. If you choose the SR or higher, the Altima gains a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Cloth seat trim is replaced by leather at the SL trim level, which welcomes other enhancements such as front-seat and steering-wheel heating, driver-seat power lumbar support, and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. Driver-seat memory is reserved for the Platinum model. If you want exclusive sports-style seat trim, go with the SR.

Infotainment on the Altima is provided by a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, voice recognition, hands-free text messaging ability, a USB port, and an audio jack, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Also standard are proximity keyless entry, remote start, and a push-button for convenient access and engine starting. Added on the SR are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a three-month subscription to SiriusXM Radio, three more USB ports, and NissanConnect infotainment integration with an 8-inch touchscreen that replaces the 7-inch one. The SL welcomes a dual-zone automatic climate control system, two more three-month SiriusXM subscriptions (SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link), and a nine-speaker Bose stereo system. Exclusive to the Platinum is an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a garage-door opener.

2021 Nissan Altima Horsepower

Typically, the 2021 Altima is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is tied to a continuously variable transmission for seamless operation. Horsepower is 188 horsepower on the S, SV, SR, and SL, and is reduced to 182 horsepower on the Platinum. There's a variant of the SR dubbed the SR-VC-Turbo, which goes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that can produce up to 248 horsepower. The front-wheel drive is standard on the S, with the option of upgrading to an all-wheel drive on the SV, SR, and SL. The Platinum gets standard all-wheel drive.

Nissan Altima Safety

The bedrock of Altima safety comes from its ProPILOT Assist suite of driver-assistance technologies, which combines automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, high beam assist, driver alertness, warning, and lane intervention. Also providing driver assistance are cruise control and a rearview camera. For protection during a crash, the Altima can deploy any of its eight airbags. Nissan adds more driver assistance at the SV trim level with active ride control, a head-up display, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, trace control, and rear parking sensors. Traffic sign recognition appears on the SL and Platinum, with the latter getting a 360-degree camera to replace the rearview one.
